The Los Amigos Club was organized November 1926 by 24 ex Falls High athletes. For three years they fielded outstanding semi-pro teams in basketball, baseball and football. Russell Packard, Falls High’s history and science teacher, was the club’s faculty adviser.

The athletic teams put Cuyahoga Falls on the states sports map on many occasions. The membership grew to 125, but colleges, marriages, work and many conflicts in general put the club out of operation.

One of the annual events of the club was a Falls banquet and this was continued and now dedicated to Coach Paul Yost who was an outstanding coach at Falls High from 1923 until 1928. He coached the undefeated-unscored on football team in the Fall of 1925.

The early Los Amigos banquets were held at the Meadowbrook Country Club near Darrowville. Speakers during the three years were “Bunny” Ewart, Archie E. Ranney and Walter Schnabel. When The Los Amigos Club turned into the “Paul Yost Club” in 1929, they moved the annual banquet to Louie Youngs Hotel in the Portage Lakes district and it was held regularly on the fourth Saturday of September.

The original members were over the hump in sports activities, but still shared stories of by-gone sports days and began bringing their sons and grandsons to hear of old sports activities at Falls High. In 1976 and the advent of Women’s Lib, they began inviting ladies to join the club. That year they also celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

Paul Yost, having left the Falls for the coaching position at Collinwood in Cleveland, returned each Fall as the speaker until his death. Following Yost, some of the speakers were William Richardson, Wade Moyer, Gilbert Roberts and Clarence Bopp.

Recently we had a donation of photos and the meeting ledger.  It shows entries for every year from 1940 with its last entry in 1985, being in its 59th year.
