CFHS, have you used a magnifying lens or a jeweler’s loupe to zero in on the posted ad to the left of the woman? Maybe there’s a clue that can lead to a year.
I printed an enlargement of the above image and examined it with a magnifying glass. I’m fairly confident that the largest font in the advertisement which is posted in the window to the right of the lady indicates “STREET DANCE.” Because the copy which I printed surely lacks the clarity of the photograph in the possession of Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society, I suspect more detailed information may be obtained via enlargement and/or magnification of that photograph.
Full size scan is on the website (link above). If you click on the photo on the website a second and third time, it enlarges to the full size. Some of you are better than I am – I was unable to make out what that sign in the window says.
I think it’s to do with perspective. It you look at the sign in the window to her left, the paneling beneath it goes down further than sidewalk level leading me to believe there are a few steps leading down to the doors of the bakery.
My guess is that she is standing on the step which makes her feet hidden, giving her that floating appearance.
The amputee?
The photographers reflecting in the window.
The walk is lower where she is standing. You can see the reflection of the photographer in the right window.
Where are here legs!?! I love that you can see the photographer!
The bridge in the reflection.
The woman is floating!
She is missing feet and seems to be floating above the ground
The reflection in the window of the man taking the photograph! Great picture!
No feet!!!
She’s standing on a step, not floating 🙂
The woman appears to be hovering and I don’t see her feet.
Looks like the older girl has no feet. I love it “cigars and candies”
Yeah !! They were selling cigars at a candy and bakery shop
Guy taking picture reflection in the window cool!!!!!
I see her shadow so I don’t think the figure is superimposed but there definitely are no feet
Selling cigars!!!!!!!

I scanned the photo at highest res without being able to tell what it says. I will try using a lens when I stop in at the museum.

Where is this taken? It looks like the building where the Boulevard is now.
This was on Front Street, across from the Sill Mansion (you can see the wall/fencing in the reflection).

I have only checked the 1885 city directory but it says the owner of the city bakery was Peter Lance and the bakery sat ‘e s Front s Portage’.
Thetime period estimated…1918… or there about. Have pics of family around that time, the childs hair looks to be the same style.
the reflection shows the stone fence bordering the Sill property at Front street.
