Tidbit Tuesday:
The Cuyahoga River became the western boundary of the United States in 1785.
It ran along the Cuyahoga River, the Portage Trail, and the Tuscarawas River. Land west of the boundary was Indian Territory up until July 4, 1805 when the boundary moved west.
Imagine crossing the river in what is now Cuyahoga Falls and being in Indian Territory!
The plaque is a monument that sits within the wall of the Perkins Mansion on Portage Trail.
There seems to be some discrepancy on some details and I’ve provided an extremely brief research via newspapers. Feel free to spend a quiet afternoon reading up on the Portage Path – and don’t forget to let us know your findings!
