Junior – Senior Melee Dispersed by Falls Police

First in History

One Cuyahoga Falls high school youth was knocked unconscious and another received a black eye and minor injuries as the result of a free-for-all fight between the junior and senior classes in front of the school building Friday night.

Jack Lewis was the youth knocked unconscious and “Pinky” Dearewas (sp) the boy receiving the black eye. Two other juniors, Eugene Galehouse and Frederick Saith were kidnapped and “taken for a ride” to a spot three miles west of the State Road where they were left to walk back.

The fight marked the apex of feeling resulting between rivalries of the junior and senior classes at the school. 

The climax was reached when juniors numbering approximately 50 charged the flag pole and withdrew the senior emblem flying there.

A crowd of seniors nearly doubled this number charged the juniors while they were engaged in drawing the flag.

The mass fight resulting brought a flying squad of Falls police who threatened the combatants with tear gas bombs.

The flag rush was the first in the history of the school here.
