John H. Cook Boot & Shoe Manufacturer
Mr. Cook, along with his wife Mary, came from Ireland and made footwear by traveling sales wagon until operating a shop on Front Street just north of Broad Street from 1881 until 1890. Born in 1836, its possible Mr. Cook may be one of the men sporting a beard in this photo. The Marshal pictured is either Richard Reid (-1886), H. Westover (1886-7) or Ira Goldwood (1888+) depending on the year this photo was taken (bet. 1881-1890).
Walking down Front Street, facing Portage – the store was 6 doors in on the right side.
