Click to enlarge. Snook Grocery was located on Portage Trail (in the old Akron Music Building).
“The grocery stores were something in those days. They had barrels of cookies, crackers, rolled oats, sauerkraut in season, sweet and sour pickles, boxes of [raisins], prunes, apricots, peaches, figs, and dates sitting around. They always had a big red coffee grinder turned by hand. We would dip in and get a sweet pickle once in a while from the barrel. Why we did not die from contaminated food is a mystery. The flies were free to get on and off this food and when it was sold the clerk just reached in with his hand and picked it up.” ~ Arthur Mosteller
Love the look on that one Guy’s face.
I loved all the grocery items ie coffee.
That tin ceiling is just awesome!
What exactly does “those days” mean? When was this?
Mr. Snook also operated a grocery/meat store in the 1928 Wild building across the street about 1930.
