Back in the mid-1970’s, Lujan’s offered (what they called) authentic British Fish and Chips. The fish was in large, irregular chunks of actual flakey, white fish (not processed) …. about golf ball size, not the filets we get today …. batter-dipped and fried. The chips were large and thick. They were served in a cardboard funnel with a London Times reproduction printed on the outside. The special sold for 99-1/2 cents…. they gave you a British Ha’Penny as change. It was my favorite and I ate quite a few of them. I don’t know what they did in preparing them, but I can still remember how great the fish tasted, and no other place has ever come close since. Oh, man…..I wish I had some right now.
My first job I worked at Lujan’s Main office and Commissary in Cuyahoga Falls, Never forget Rolin D, Lujan, my old boss. We had 11 restaurants at the time. I quit in 1972 to raise my family.
Virginia – my Uncle’s wife worked in the main office – do you remember her – Louise Diehl. Long red fingernails, permed and perfect appearance. She got me a job in the Akron restaurant as a waitress when I was in high school.
I remember Louise and her back stabbing, lying, self serving brother who also worked at the Lujans Commissary. His name was Jim. He was a real piece of crap!
Jim spoerndle, Carl Hammonds, Cap baked pies back in the warehouse bakery. Then supervisors were Gus Hofmann and Lindsey Winstead. Yes Louise was a strange person when went out during lunch and drank Manhattans. I was 19 now I’m 74.. Long time. But that food was awesome!

I remember how great the fish was and especially the tartar sauce. Do you know the recipe for the sauce?
My mother and father met there in 1967 or 68. I found this site because I am writing a story about how they met and I wanted to spell the name correctly. Very cool to have found this picture, as I had only pictured it in my mind all these years. Thanks to whomever posted it.
I remember those on the wall.
I had forgotten about those designs on the wall until now!
My Grandma worked there making pies.
Lujan’s was on State Road & Schiller … Manners was on Front Street!!
