Cow Mishap on Falls Avenue 1871

I was just thinking how today’s articles have gotten sloppy or jumbled and then I read this article (typed exactly) from 1871 CF Reporter:

Scene: Falls Street, below second. Office of Hanford Bros in the foreground.

Time: Friday afternoon, 13th of January.

Dramatis Personae: small boy in Hanford’s office, two well-dressed young ladies, and – a cow. Ladies daintily picking their way across the muddy street: cow, annoyed by a naughty boy, sets off with grand caudal flourish down the street; young ladies, imagining themselves object of cow’s attack, scatter vocal music on the balmy air and make for convenient fence: first  – young lady – very agile – meets with no difficulty in surmounting fence and is deposited safely in muddy field; second young lady, after several futile attempts to do so gracefully, lands upon fence-top: small boy (just in moustache,) laughs loudly; cow passes out of sight around the corner, and young ladies retire disconsolately from the scene.
