Oliver B. Beebe was born in New London, Connecticut on October 17, 1807 and in childhood removed with his parents to Middletown where in addition to receiving a good common school education he learned to the book binders trade. After working some time as a journeyman, and one year for himself in Middletown he came to Cuyahoga Falls and established himself as a book-binder and stationer; and in 1848 he embarked in the dry goods trade, which he successfully conducted until his death on Septerber 1, 1881 at the age of 73 years, 10 months, and 14 days. September 30, 1832 he was married to Sarah A. Babcock of Middletown who borne him four children – Jane, Mary, William Oliver and Robert the eldest son and successor to his father’s business in Cuyahoga Falls.Originally a Democrat, Mr. Beebe was a postmaster of Cuyahoga Falls under the administration of President James K. Polk but later, as a staunch Republican held the office of mayor and other positions of trust and honor.
