TO ESTABLISH SIDEWALK AND STREET GRADES
Council on Wednesday night passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Davis to employ a competent engineer to establish grades on all streets and for sidewalks throughout the entire town, where no such grades are now established. He was also given power to have markers of stone placed at every corner. The matter as passed simply calls for a grade establishment and is in no wise legislation taken towards the construction of wlaks, so much discussed of late.
The work of establishing the grades will cost about $500, it being expected that a competent engineer will be retained at a fixed salary until the work is completed. The resolution carried unanimously, every council member being present.
Under the head of committee reports, Councilman Shoaf told of the investigation of the sidwalks of Hudson, reporting heartily in favor of passing legislation of a similar nature here, to-wit, to establish sidewalks all over town, of stone. It was shown that Hudson built her walks of four feet width at a figure of 42 cents a running foot, or 10 1/5th cents a square foot, Berea stone being used. This includes the stone, grade-work and laying, the job complete.
The report of the committee was accepted and at a later meeting the sidewalk question will be more thoroughly discussed and action probably taken.
