Aerial Photos 1964-1976

1976 – Looking northeast up the gorge over the Front Street bridges. The power plant is at the right center.

1976 – Looking east at the Gorge Metropolitan Park. The dam is in the lower left quadrant, and the Mary Campbell Cave is at the left center edge of the photograph. The Ohio Edison right-of-way (Chuckery) and flume pipe from the dam can be seen running down the gorge at the lower left corner.

1976 – Looking west at the lower gorge. The high-level bridge is in the center and the Diplomat Apartments at the left center edge. The Falls-Akron Motel is at the right center edge. Valley View golf course is in the upper left quadrant. The Ohio Edison right-of-way (Chuckery) can clearly be seen on the left side of the gorge.

1966 – Looking south at the lower gorge. The high-level bridge is at the right center. The Diplomat Apartments are at the right center, and the Falls-Akron Motel is in the lower right quadrant. North Main Street angles across the right side of the scene. The Ohio Edison right-of-way (Chuckery) can be seen on the far side of the gorge. It then angles into the upper right quadrant as it turns behind the Apartments.

1966 – Looking south at Peck Road – Cascade Valley Park area. The Ohio Edison right-of-way can be seen through the trees, starting from the lower left corner of the photograph and angling toward the center. The Cuyahoga River snakes across the lower right quadrant. The Little Cuyahoga River and Cuyahoga Street run down the right edge f the scene. Peck Road starts from Cuyahoga Street at the right center side of the scene and angles into the lower left quadrant.

1966 – Over the Little Cuyahoga River, looking due east up the lower gorge. Cuyahoga Street runs across the bottom of the photograph. The Valley View golf course clubhouse is at the lower left edge. The Cuyahoga River snakes across the lower half of the scene. Peck road angles from the lower right edge toward the lower center. The Ohio Edison right-of-way can be seen faintly through the trees angling from the center of the photo to the lower right edge.

1966 – Over the Little Cuyahoga River Valley, looking north-east. The Little Cuyahoga River runs along the lower left edge of the scene. Cuyahoga Street runs across the entire lower part of the photograph. The Akron Workhouse is in the lower center. Peck Road leaves Cuyahoga Street in the lower right quadrant, and angles through the center to the upper left quadrant. The High Level Bridge is in the upper left. The Ohio Edison right-of-way (Chuckery) can be clearly seen through the trees in the center of the photograph, just above Peck Road. It ends at a deep ravine at the western end of the Salome Avenue.

1966 – Over Akron’s North Hill, looking northwest. The Little Cuyahoga River starts at the lower left corner, angles across the left side of the scene, and meets the Cuyahoga River at a point of land left of the center of the scene. Cuyahoga Street angles from the lower left edge through the center of the photograph. Peck Road runs from Cuyahoga Street in the lower left quadrant to the right through the center of the scene to the upper right edge. The Heslop Estates are at the extreme left center edge. The end of the Chuckery Race can be seen through the trees in the lower right center, where it meets the deep ravine at the western end of Salome Avenue. Valley View golf course is in the upper left quadrant.

1964 – Looking southwest from Portage Trail. The Cathedral of Tomorrow is in the lower center. The State Road shopping center is at the lower left edge of the scene. The water behind the gorge dam can be seen faintly at the upper center edge of the photograph, along with a plume of smoke from the power plant.

1976 – Looking west above Portage Trail. The Cathedral of Tomorrow and its tower are at the left center. The State Road shopping center is at the lower center of the scene. The Brookpark Drive – Hidden Valley Road development is in the upper right corner. The Cedar Hill Road development is in the right center.
