Back in 1980 (35 years ago!) William Barth, a CFHS coordinator, and Ron Simon, director of the art department of Cuyahoga Falls Schools, sponsored a contest to see which students could come up with the best logo for the historical society.

The award winners would be recognized at a CFHS meeting held at the Cuyahoga Falls Library and $25 for first place, $15 for second and third got $10.

After the students turned their creative designs in they were judged by a panel of three local artists, Tony Cross, Richard Krupp, and Patricia Roennau. Selection was made on the basis of originality and creativity.

Third place went to a Cuyahoga Falls High School senior, Ann Leppert. Second place went to another senior John Appelhorn. The winner of the contest and the $25 went to a ninth grader from Bolich Junior High by the name of David Jursik.

The winning entry was adapted by John Cross and became the logo for the Cuyahoga Falls Historical Society. It’s 35 years later and the same logo is being used, although it has adapted several times.
