NOTE:It is believed that the personal names referenced are all businesses- i.e., bookkeepers, stenographers, attorneys, agents, etc. The business directories do not list the type of business, so it is requested that if you can identify any of them, pleasecomment.  Dates referenced are the business directory issues for which the listing appears if the listing is limited to a single issue (issues cover a period of four years).   Businesses listed which are not “downtown” are from my old neighborhood on the east side or were used frequently by members of my family.  BS

  1. My Dad, Ted Ramsey owned Sanitary City Market at 2045 Front Street in 1958. We are looking for any pictures the historical society might have of his store. Please help with any information that is available.

    Respectfully,

    Lydia (Ramsey) Haralson

  2. Dr. EJ Ellis, DDS (118 Portage Trail), was our family dentist in the 1960’s — a Lone Star fraternity brother of my dad’s.

    1. Mine as well ! I was just thinking about that office and the Lone Star connection this morning.

  3. Some others: Pat Eibers Store on Bailey Road. Steve Davis Arco Bailey Road, Oakwood Drive Doughnut Shop, Oakwood Market in front of Lions Park, Jacobson Lawn Mower Bailey Road across from Lincoln School, Riggiletto’s Pizza Hudson Drive, Lujans Front Street & Hudson Drive, The Big D grocery store Front Street, McKinnon’s Printing Front Street, Hudson Drive Hardware, Buehler’s Drug Store (next to the Hardware)

      1. Hi Holly,
I remember Rigoletto’s too from when I was a kid. I used to help the owner (Felix who lived upstairs with his daughter) make pizza boxes while my parents were over in the bar. That was back in the 1960’s. I saw your post from Dec. 2020 and just thought I’d comment. 🙂
        Theresa

        1. My Uncle’s tavern, Verne’s Cafe, was right across the street from Rigoletto’s at 2752 Hudson Drive. He owned and ran it from the 1930’s to when he died in 1973. In the mid-70s when it was still in our family, I ran it for about a year, but by that time, old neighborhood taverns without any entertainment were on the way out. I would go to Wilbur’s Silver Swan down the street sometimes after I closed. It was a hard job and I remember a lot of the characters I served there nearly 50 years ago.

        2. Forgot to say that the building was Jerry’s deli later on then Rockne’s and is now Divine Food Spirits Wine.

  4. F.W. Orth Co. was a printing company at 2031-2035 Second Street. It was a union shop, and did printing for Goodyear and other large businesses, as well as small jobs like CFHS football programs. They had 50 or so employees in the 50’s and 60’s. Frank Orth started the business in the 20’s, or perhaps before. Brick building was across the street and down a short distance from the Post Office. It operated there for decades, but moved to a new building in Stow in early 70’s as a result of the CF urban renewal project. The site became part of a parking garage.

  5. I am trying to find out the owners of both a neighborhood grocery store & pharmacy. They were located between 4th & 6th on Chestnut Blvd. I believe Sol Wilkins owned grocery.
Thank you for your time & help.

  6. A few more, Eiber’s Marker, Bailey Rd MC Gowen Reed Funeral Home, Baily Rd Wolf Television Oakwood Dr Hungry I Restaurant, Oakwood Dr Clydes Sohio Tifft and Bailey Rd Manners Big Boy Front St. and Hudson Drive FW Woolworths, Front St Skidmores junk yard, Just down from High (Street Rt 8 Freeway there now)

  7. I am looking for any photos and info on businesses that were located at 2252 Front St in downtown Cuyahoga Falls. Yaeger’s Dept Store, Mr and Mrs Cue for Two Club and Jack Richards Art Gallery have occupied this building

  8. No one mentioned Beeler’s pharmacy on Hudson Dr, Bonds Men’s Clothing Store on State Rd( my dad worked there)

    1. Eva, Please contact me about Beeler’s Pharmacy. My parents have passed away and I can’t remember all of what he shared about his mother’s family who were of the same last name. I’m pretty sure he had a pharmacy and will look for more details in papers I have. Thank you.

  9. Really curious about the history of 2225 Front st. (Directly across from The Workz). It is striking from the outside. So unique. Certainly should be preserved. Only thing I’ve really found is it was built in 1908.
Anyone know any history? TY in advance

  10. The Pioneer Cafe at 2025 Front St. was my Granpa Haas’ bar…he unfortunately passed before I was born. My Dad, Dr. David Haas, worked at the cafe when he was young. My Grandma, Lena Haas, who I remember well was an amazing cook and would make Hungarian Chicken Paprigash. Anyone have any old pics or memories I could share with my Dad?
    Thanks,
    Jennifer Haas

  11. Didn’t the 1960s pro wrestling duo “The Gallagher Brothers” have a small gymnasium on State Road (near to where the Krispy Kreme was) in the late 1950s or early 1960s?

  12. Mary Coyles ice cream on Portage Trail
    Long’s Furniture on State Rd
    Lyle Chevrolet on Front St

  13. I am looking for a family owned grocery stores in Cuyahoga Falls.in the 70’s 80’s. I believe family name was something like Cazzoli, they had 2 sons and a daughter.

  14. The City Club was on Portage Trail, and when Imwas in college we would go,there on Friday nights to hear a woman singer who sang all kinds of songs – some of them raunchy. What was her name?

  15. Brown Derby on State Rd. Late 1960’s or early 70’s. A boy was pulled from the swimming pool after being seen under water in the deep end of the pool. The janitor started compressions on him and the fire department and ambulance came and took him away. I was young and have thought about it for decades, hoping that the boy survived. I know it’s a long shot, but is anyone familiar with this incident?
